Dons Take 1-0 Lead to the Super Pit for Game Two

The University of San Francisco men's basketball team (22-15, 9-9 WCC) travels to Denton, Texas for game two of the best-of-three series of the College Basketball Invitational finals against the North Texas Mean Green (18-18, 8-10 Conference USA).  Wednesday's game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. PST tip and will be televised on ESPNU with the broadcast team of Roy Philpott and Jason Capel on the call.  Pat Olson and coach Jim Brovelli will have the Dons' audio broadcast which can be accessed on the men's basketball schedule page.

TOMORROW'S GAME
USF took a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three series when they shot the lights out of the gym in the opening half of Monday night's game.  The Dons set two 3-point records on Monday night.  USF made 12 shots from beyond the arc in the first half, which is believed to be a record for 3-point field goals in a half.  USF finished the night making 14 3-point field goals, which gives the Dons 312 on the year, a new single season record, best the mark of 299 set by last year's team.
 
The Dons starting five was electric for the Dons on Monday night, with all five players finished in double figures.  The last time the Dons had five players finish in double figures came against Nevada in the finale of the Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic.  Matt McCarthy and Chase Foster both finished with double-doubles.  The Dons now have four double-doubles in the CBI, three coming from McCarthy. 
 
If the Dons get the win on Wednesday night they will become the first NCAA Division I team to win three different postseason tournaments.  The Dons own two NCAA Championships (1955 and '56) and an NIT Championships (1949). 
 
North Texas saw its streak of three-consecutive games scoring 90 points or more come to an end on Monday night.  The Dons defense held the Mean Green to 62 points, fewest since total since Louisiana Tech held them to 62 on Mar. 3.

The Dons take a 1-0 advantage in the series following their 72-62 win over the Mean Green on Monday. 
 
UP NEXT
If the Dons earn the win on Wednesday night they will take the series 2-0 and become just the third team in the tournament's history to win the finals in two games.  Should the Mean Green force a third and final game that will take place on Friday at 4:00 p.m. PST at the Super Pit.
