ALBUQUERQUE, N.M -- The University of San Francisco men's tennis team faced Lamar University on day two of the Mountain Pacific Invitational Sunday morning. The Dons fell to Lamar University 4-2, finishing sixth in the invitational.
"We wanted it bad today and we were right there," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "We are close to breaking through and we need to believe in our games more."
The Cardinals secured the doubles point over the Dons early when doubles pairs Johan Joenhagen and Mert Zincirli, and Ryan Marker and Marco Barretto dropped their matches 6-3.
Paul Giraud started singles for the Dons and fell 6-3, 6-3 and Barretto (6-2, 6-3) followed with a dropped match as well. Zincirli and Poysti came back for the Dons, putting points on the board, but USF ultimately fell after Marker's 6-4, 7-6 defeat.
"Lamar was just a little bit tougher than us," Almeida said. "Credit to the Cardinals for being a little bit stronger. We want to thank the University of New Mexico for hosting the tournament."
