Facing the Musketeers: This will be the first time the two teams have squared off against one another. The Musketeers enter the weekend on a five-game losing streak, including three losses to WCC foe Saint Mary's and East Bay rival Cal. Â
Pham gets first start: Freshman Alex Pham is getting the call in the first game of the series against Xavier on Thursday. Pham has made three appearances this season in relief, totaling 6.1 innings. He has displayed impressive stuff, striking out nine and allowing just five hits.
Ornido on the bump: Sophomore Riley Ornido will get the call in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday. Ornido saw his no-hit streak come to an end at an impressive 14.1 innings against UC Riverside. However, the sophomore's fantastic start to the 2018 season continues as he has yet to allow an earned run to cross the plate, keeping his ERA at 0.00.
Home field offense impresses: In the last home series for the Dons, the offense hit its stride in the doubleheader against San Jose State (game one) and Sacramento State (game two). Jonathan Allen continued to impress in that set of games, getting two hits and driving in a pair against Sac State. Michael Perri was the offense standout that weekend, driving in seven total runs in the two games, including a monster grand slam in the fourth inning.
Helland on Johnny Bench Award list: Junior Riley Helland was named to the Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com watch list this week, an annual honor given to the top division one collegiate catcher in the NCAA.
