BSB | Two Innings Hurt Dons in Loss to Oregon

THE RUNDOWN
SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco Dons (18-10, 8-1) baseball team lost, 5-2, to the University of Oregon (16-11, 3-6) in a non-conference matchup.

The Dons got their lead-off batters on in the first and second inning but were unable to advance the runner past second base. It was Oregon that opened up the scoring in the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Jonny DeLuca and Ray Soderman to make it 2-0.

Daniel Slominski started for USF and went five innings, giving up the two home runs in the second inning. Following the second inning, Slominski settled into a groove on the mound allowing just one hit and striking out two from the third to fifth innings.

The sixth inning would see both teams scoring two. Grant Young came on in relief for Slominski to start off the inning and would get the first batter out. The sophomore would allow the next two batters to reach base before giving up an RBI single to Oregon's Soderman. The next run would score on a bunt that dribbled towards the pitcher, but the runner beat the throw and tag to make it 4-0.

USF would grab two runs of their own with a lead-off double from Michael Perri. R.J. Cordeiro came up a batter later and singled into centerfield, which drove in Perri to make it 4-1. Cordeiro would advance to second on the throw to home plate. Brady Bate's single up the middle would drive in Cordeiro and cut the Oregon lead to 4-2.

Oregon would grab an insurance run in the top-half of the seventh inning to make it 5-2, which would ultimately be the final score.

USF is now 18-10 on the season and has one more home game before hitting the road for an eight-game road trip. They will take on Fresno State on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
