VB | Dons Defeat UC Riverside to Complete Unbeaten Weekend

FULLERTON, Calif. — The San Francisco volleyball team pushed its winning streak to five straight Saturday with a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17) neutral site win over UC Riverside to complete an undefeated appearance at the Titan Volleyball Tournament in Titan Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams split the first two sets, with the Dons (7-4) winning set one, 25-19, and the Highlanders (5-6) taking set two, 25-21. That's when the Dons took over and rolled to victory.

  • San Francisco went on an 8-0 run early in the third set that turned what was a 6-6 tie score into a 14-6 lead. The Dons' lead would grow to as large as 20-10 before UC Riverside went on a 5-0 sprint that made it 21-16. USF scored four of the last five points in the set to win 21-17 and go up 2-1 in the match.

  • The Dons did it again in the fourth set, though it took a little longer that time. The Highlanders got a block from Ashlyn Blotzer to make it 13-12 in favor of USF, but the Dons would score five straight points as part of an 8-1 run to go up 21-13 and never look back. McKenna Marshall knocked down the kill to clinch the 25-17 set win and 3-1 match victory.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • .118: The Dons held UC Riverside to just .118 hitting. Only one UCR player that had more than one kill hit better than .200 (out of 13 who attempted an attack).
  • 11: McKenna Marshall led the Dons with 11 kills. It was her third double-digit kills performance in six matches played this season.
  • 22: Erin Anthony tallied a team-high 22 assists to go with 11 digs for a double-double. Her setting counterpart Ally Wada turned in 21 assists.
COMING UP
The Dons return home on Thursday to open West Coast Conference play against rival Santa Clara. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
