STANFORD, Calif. – Two first half goals scored less than 30 seconds apart were the difference as the University of San Francisco men's soccer team fell to No. 5 Stanford 2-0 at Cagan Stadium on Wednesday night.

"It's always disappointing when you don't get a result but I thought our guys went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the country," said head coach Leonard Griffin. "I'm proud of the teams' competitiveness until the very end. We will look to build on the positives from this match as we prepare for another tough team on Saturday."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Dons (2-9-1) held the Cardinal (10-1-2) scoreless through the first 20 minutes before Keegan Hughes sent a header to the back of the net off the set piece by Derek Waldeck in the 26^th minute. The goal by Hughes was the second of the season.

• Less than 30 seconds later, Cardinal forward Zach Ryan scored his fifth goal on the year. The Dons were outshot 14-4 in the first half.

• Out of the break, the Dons defense stiffened up, holding the Cardinal to just six shots after the break. However, the USF offense was limited to just three shots with only one on goal.
