MGOLF | Two Finish in the Top-10 as the Dons Capture Fourth

DAVIS, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team finished strong with three players cracking the top-15 as the Dons captured fourth at the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis at the El Macero Country Club. The Dons finished the tournament 11-over 875 (297-284-294).
USF carded a 6-over 294 on the final round, which was tied for the fourth lowest round of the day. For the tournament, the Dons finished ahead of two teams ranked in the top-50 of the Golfstat.com rankings and just 11 strokes back tournament champion and 10th ranked Texas Tech.
Soren Lind and Tim Widing finished in the top-10 at a tie for sixth with even par 216s. Toby Briggs climbed 14 spots on the leaderboard on the final day to finish tied for 14th. For the tournament the Dons did a tremendous job on the par-5 holes, posting an average hole score of 4.90 for a 6-under. USF recorded 169 pars for the tournament which was second only to Texas Tech.
Widing sandwiched bogeys on four and five with birdies on one and seven to go into the turn even par. A bogey on 18 was the lone blemish on the back-9 as he wrapped up the tournament with a 1-over 73 on the final round to finish with an even par 216 (74-69-73).
Lind mirrored Widing's round to finish the tournament even at 216 (73-69-74). Lind was even on the front after a bogey on two and a birdie on five. A double bogey on the par-4 10th had him 2-over for the round. After 54 holes, Lind finished with 41 pars which led the tournament.
In Briggs' final round he carded six birdies, three on the front-9 and three more on the back-9 and finished the day with a 1-over 73. For the tournament Briggs finished with a 3-over 219 (74-72-73). His 11 birdies for the tournament was tied for the 10th most after 54 holes.
Freshman Matthew Anderson moved into fourth for the Dons. He finished the tournament tied for 44th with an 11-over 227 (77-76-74). In the final round he carded four birdies, a double on 18 kept him recording his first collegiate round at par or better.
Fellow freshman Christoffer Palsson took 52nd he finished the tournament with a 13-over 229 (76-74-79).
No. 10 Texas Tech took home the team and individual honors. The Red Raider finished the tournament even par at 864 (299-274-291). Sandy Scott was the individual champion, finishing with a 3-under 213 (75-66-72).
The Dons will be off until Thursday, April 25 when they head to Stockton, Calif., to participate in the WCC Championships. The WCC Championship will be held at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
