Women's Soccer Notches Impressive Win Over Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Using a combination of timely offense and stingy defense, the USF Dons' women's soccer team (6-7-2, 2-4) defeated the Pacific Tigers (10-4-2, 2-3-1) 1-0 Saturday night at Knoles Field. The Dons' scored the match's lone goal very late in the first half and received a strong performance from Megan Nail making her first start in goal for her college career.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Both sides were playing a tough, defensive minded contest until the Dons got on the scoreboard courtesy of Elle Soleau's second goal of the season. Kaya Pigoni recorded her first assist of the season on the play.
  • USF played in an assertive offensive fashion outshooting the Tigers 13-11 keeping pressure on a very good opponent at their own field.
  • Megan Nail impressed in her first collegiate start in goal by shutting out UOP and recording three saves.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Elle Soleau continues her strong season for the Dons as she recorded her second goal of the season and is now third on the team in points with five.
  • Kaya Pigoni set up Soleau beautifully for the score as she notched her first assist this year.
  • Pressed into duty, Megan Nail performed phenomenally in her first collegiate start as she shut out the Tigers to go along with three saves.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH MILLINDER:
"It was a hard fought game as everyone is in the WCC. I thought our effort was excellent tonight against a very good Pacific team. Elle Soleau hit a great shot with about ten seconds left in the first half on an assist from Kaya Pigoni. Megan Nail got her first start in goal and was very solid earning a clean sheet. We had some quality looks in the second half but couldn't get the second goal. I thought we did a good job managing the game late. Always tough to win on the road in the WCC."
