Dons Defeat LMU for First Conference Win

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- A combination of a quick strike offense and steady defensive effort propelled the USF Dons' women's soccer team (5-4-2, 1-1) to a 1-0 home victory over Loyola Marymount Wednesday evening. It took the Dons only 21 seconds of game time to get on the scoreboard which proved to be enough for the victory in front of 532 fans at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • USF's offense needed no time to settle into the match as Kalena Teufel found Elle Soleau right in front of the net for the lone goal of the night to put the Dons ahead for good.
  • The match was a defensive struggle all evening as each side battled to keep the opponent away from their own goals giving both goalkeepers quiet evenings on the pitch.
  • Wednesday night's victory moved the Dons' record to 4-0-1 at home and was the fifth shutout of the season for USF.
  • The victory also improved the Dons' record in conference play to 1-1 in the early portion of the conference slate.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Soleau notched her first goal of the 2021 fall season and collected her third point of the campaign thus far.
  • Teufel set up the goal perfectly in front of the net and Soleau took care of the rest. The assist was Teufel's second of the season as she earned her fourth point of the season tied for the third-highest on the Dons this season.
  • Eby continued her excellent season in goal with her fifth shutout performance as her dominance at home doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH MILLINDER:
"They (USF) came out flying. We strung together eight or nine consecutive balls together and Elle finished a great little pass. I thought we had some good chances in the first half, but it was a battle. LMU's a good team they have some good players and they fought hard and made it very, very difficult for us tonight. At the end of the day we're just looking for the W and we want to continue to keep winning games."
