Men's Basketball Ready for Showdown vs. Samford

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –  Following an impressive win over Davidson at Chase Center on Saturday evening, the Univeristy of San Francisco men's basketball team (3-0) will aim to continue their winning ways when they host Samford (2-0) on Monday night.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last time out, the Dons squared off against Bob McKillop and Davidson in their return to Chase Center on Saturday, Nov. 13 as the Dons hung on to defeat the Wildcats, 65-60 for their third straight win to begin the season.
  • Leading the charge once again, Jamaree Bouyea finished as the top scorer for USF as the 6'2" guard poured in 14 points on 6-of-14 from the field while also adding 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist. Additionally, Gabe Stefanini tallied 12 points on 3-of-9 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line while Josh Kunen finished 3-of-6 from behind-the-arc with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
  • As a team, USF outshot Davidson (45.8 percent to 42.0 percent) while also winning the turnover battle (13-10). Collectively, the Dons led the Wildcats in points off turnovers (17-14), fast break points (13-6) and bench points (24-6).
  • Off to another hot start, Bouyea is currently averaging a team-high 17.3 points per game on an efficient 60 percent shooting from the floor. Additionally, the 6'2" guard currently sits second on the team in assists (7) and assists per game (2.33) and third in total rebounds (14) and rebounds per game (4.7). Defensively, Bouyea has also shined to start as he also is second in total steals (7), steals per game (2.33), total blocks (5) and blocks per game (1.67).Proving to be a workhouse no matter the opponent, Bouyea is also first on the team in minutes per game (33.3) and field goals made (21).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • In their last time on the floor, Samford cruised past Spring Hill College (Ala.), 86-69, at home on Thursday, Nov. 11. Spreading the wealth in their win, five Bulldogs scored in double figures: Jermaine Marshall (16), Wesley Cardet (14), Ques Glover (12), Jaden Campbell (10) and Jaron Rillie (10).
  • Transferring from Florida, Ques Glover has made an immediate impact in his first two games for the Bulldogs, scoring a team-high 19 points while handing out three assists versus Maryville before scoring 12 points and grabbing three rebounds in Thursday's win over Spring Hill.
  • Alongside Glover, Marshall also transferred from Akron as the 6'6" forward is averaging 13.5 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game after his double-double (16 pts, 10 reb) versus Spring Hill.
  • Heading into this week, Samford is currently third overall in scoring in the Southern Conference (SoCon), averaging 92.5 points per game. Defensively, the Bulldogs are leading the SoCon in steals (29) and turnovers forced (49).

  • Monday's showdown marks the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
