Men's Basketball to Host Morgan State on Monday

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Fresh off another thrilling win on Thursday night, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team will aim to continue their torrid start to the season when they welcome Morgan State (2-3, 0-0 MEAC) to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Monday night.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • In their last time on the hardwood, USF took down Nevada, 73-70, on Thursday, Nov. 18 behind the strength of three Dons in double figures: Gabe Stefanini (28 pts), Jamaree Bouyea (22 pts) and Yauhen Massalski (10 pts). 
  • For Stefanini, the 6'3" guard's 28 points marked a season-high as he finished 10-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-12 from beyond-the-arc. Notably, he also added four rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes of action.
  • Tapping into his clutch gene once again, Bouyea poured in 22 points in USF's 73-70 win over the Wolf Pack, which included the go-ahead three for the Dons with 33.3 seconds left in regulation. Displaying his talent on both ends of the floor, Bouyea also tied AJ Bramah of Nevada with a game-high seven rebounds in addition to logging a team-high four assists. Through the first five games of the season, Bouyea currently leads USF in scoring (18.6 ppg), minutes per game (34.8), field goals made (35) and assists per game (3.4) while also sitting second in rebounds per game (5.2) and total blocks (7). Impressively, Bouyea has also scored in double figures in eleven consecutive contests as he now has 12 career games with 20+ points. Overall, he also ranks in the top five in the conference in minutes per game (34.5, first), total field goals made (35, first), total field goals attempted (68, first), total points (93, first) three-point field goals made (12, third), blocks (7, fourth), steals (9, fourth) and points per game (18.6, fifth).
  • As a team, the Dons rank in the top three in the WCC in steals per game (8.8, first), total steals (44), three-point field goals per game (10.8, first), total three-point field goals made (54, first), free throws made (69, second), free throw attempts (102, second), total blocks (26, second), total rebounds (185, second) blocks per game (5.2, third), rebounding margin (8.8, third) and three-point defense (29.5, third). Notably, their 54 three-points field goals made are good for ninth nationally while their 26 blocks also ranks fifteenth in the nation. 
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
  • Last time out, Morgan State fell to familiar WCC foe Portland, 74-63, at the Chiles Center on Saturday, Nov. 20 in their second contest of a three-game West Coast road swing. Previously, the Bears were defeated by Seattle U, 90-83, on Thurs, Nov. 18.
  • Overall, Morgan State is averaging 88.0 points per game as a team coming into Monday night while holding their opponents to 76.6 points per game. From the floor, the Bears currently shoot 48.2 percent while also sporting a 36.0 percent clip from distance. Active on both ends, Morgan State also averages 18.6 assists per game and 13.2 steals per game.
  • Individually, five different Bears are averaging double figures in scoring so far this season: Keith McGee (16.0 ppg), Malik Miller (16.0 ppg), De'Torrion Ware (13.0 ppg), Lagio Grantsaan (10.0 ppg) and Isaiah Burke (10.0 ppg). Additionally, Grantsaan leads the team in rebounds per game (4.8) and total blocks (4) while teammate Sherwyn Devonish paces Morgan State in assists per game (5.4) and steals per game (3.0).
SERIES HISTORY:
USF defeated Morgan State 87-74 at home in their lone meeting all-time on Jan. 3, 2012. In the win, five different Dons scored in double figures: Angelo Caloiaro (19 pts), Perris Blackwell (19 pts), Cody Dollin (13 pts), Michael Williams (11 pts) and Cole Dickerson (10 pts).
