SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Playing in their final match at home this fall, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (2-12-1, 0-5-1) battled until the late stages of the contest once again, but ultimately fell to Loyola Marymount (12-4-1, 4-2-0), 1-0, on a goal in the 88
th minute at Negoesco Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Aiming to get the offense going early, Nonso Adimabua ripped a shot at the top of the box just 2:17 into play, but the forward missed high as the Dons were kept off the board to start. Just a few minutes later, the Dons continued to press as senior Shayan Chalaraghi logged his first shot of the afternoon followed by another shot from Adimabua, but USF could not find the go-ahead strike to begin.
- In the following minutes, the Lions drove down the pitch on the attack as Ronaldo Brown fired three consecutive shots, but USF goalkeeper Brandon Keniston denied the LMU shots to keep the game scoreless.
- Despite the two sides continuing to exchange shots through the remainder of the half, neither side found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes as the match had no score at the halftime break.
- Moving into the second half, both the Lions and the Dons remained locked in on defense as the game clock ticked down to under five minutes remaining with no points on the scoreboard. Giving their all until the final whistle, USF would fall victim to a late goal for the second straight contest as the Lions scored the game-winning goal at the 87:47 mark after a stellar save from Keniston ricocheted into the feet of Narciso Cervantes, who then struck for LMU.
- Conjuring up one final offensive attack, the Dons pushed into the opposing side of the field to close the match, but were unable to deliver any shots on goal as the Lions hung on to secure the 1-0 road victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Continuing to shine as one of the premier offensive talents in the conference, Adimabua tallied at least two shots for the tenth time in fifteen matches this season on Sunday.
- In the cage, Keniston showed his promise once again by racking up six saves, his third most in a match this fall. Impressively, he has logged at least five saves in eight of his nine appearances for the Dons.
- Recording his his final minutes at Negoesco Stadium, Charalaghi recorded his fifth shot on goal against LMU while also playing the full 90 minutes for the eight time this season.
