Women's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play at Colorado and Tulsa

BOULDER, Colo. -- Following a 12-day break between games, the USF Dons women's basketball program (5-5) is back in action as they close their road non-conference schedule this week with afternoon matchups against the Colorado Buffaloes (10-0) and Tulsa Golden Hurricane (8-0).

USF will be challenged to end non-conference play with both teams entering the games with perfect records. Monday and Wednesday's game will be the third and second to last road games during this month-long period of no home games for USF, as they will begin WCC play on Dec. 30 against Gonzaga before returning to War Memorial on New Year's Day to host Santa Clara.

DONS BACK IN ACTION:
  • Following a 12-day absence from game action, USF is back to work looking to shake off their most recent loss to Cal State Fullerton.
  • Ioanna Krimili continues to prove that she's one of the best players on the West Coast, as she's second in the WCC at 19.7 PPG and is currently one assist shy of 100 for her collegiate career.
  • Amalie Langer currently is ninth in the conference with 1.8 steals per game, as she's had a strong impact on the game on both sides of the floor with her full-court defense and outside shooting.
  • Running the USF offense, Jessica McDowell-White has done a tremendous job of taking score of the ball as she's seventh among WCC athletes in assist-turnover ratio. McDowell-White leads the Dons' with 28 total assists this season to only 14 turnovers so-far this season.
  • Wednesday's game against Tulsa is poised to be Abby Rathbun's 100th career game for USF, as she's started 85 of the first 98 games she has competed in throughout her four years on the Hilltop. 
SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES:
  • Entering Monday afternoon's game with a perfect 10-0 record, as they've dominated in their path to victory with eight consecutive victories by double digit margins. 
  • Head coach JR Payne is off to her best start during her time in Boulder, as the Buffaloes have taken down quality opponents Oklahoma State, Marquette, Wisconsin and SMU. 
  • Fifth-year senior forward Mya Hollingshed is leading the CU offense in PPG and rebounds per game at 13.9 and 6.3 respectively. Her size can pose challenges for opposing teams and the Dons will attempt to limit her production.
  • Off the bench, senior center Quay Miller is second on the Buffaloes at 11.5 PPG, she also has the ability to stretch the floor from the center position, as she's shooting 42% from three-point distance.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE:
  • Competing in the American Athletic Conference, Tulsa is also off to an undefeated start as they currently sit at 9-0 with another game on tap for them Sunday afternoon ahead of their matchup with the Dons. 
  • Head coach Angie Nelp has yet to lose a game as a collegiate head coach, as she took over the Golden Hurricane program ahead of the 2021-22 season after serving as the associate head coach at Arizona State. 
  • Senior guard Maya Mayberry is leading Tulsa at 16.9 PPG through seven games played as she will be important to limit for USF to have success. 
  • Having played off the bench and started three games for the Golen Hurricane, freshman forward Temira Pondexter is second in PPG for Tulsa at 13.0, while leading the team in blocks and is second in rebounds per game at 4.9.
