Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dons Fight Hard in Road Loss to Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. -- Returning to the court for the first time in 12 days, the USF Dons women's basketball team (5-6) fell on the road to the undefeated Colorado Buffaloes (11-0) 80-56 at CU Events Center Monday afternoon.

The Dons used a strong shooting performance to hang tough with the Buffaloes for most of the contest, but were unable to mount a second half comeback as they now have one remaining non-conference game on the schedule ahead of WCC play on Dec. 30. Claudia Langarita and Aya Kéita set new career-high in points as Langarita scored 14 and Kéita poured in five points off the San Francisco bench.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Buffaloes got off to a quick start Monday afternoon as they raced out to a 9-2 early advantage in the first quarter.
  • USF was able to claw back into the game due to their strong three-point shooting as they reduced CU's double digit lead to only seven points heading into halftime.
  • Colorado came out strong out of the break as they built their lead throughout the contest on their way to the victory on Monday.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Jasmine Gayles led the way for the Dons as she scored 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while making four three-point shots along the way. Gayles also contributed a rebound, assist and a steal against CU.
  • Langarita was very impactful on the offensive end off the bench as she scored 14 points on a very efficient 6-for-8 shooting as well as securing four rebounds and an assist.
  • Jessica McDowell-White did a little bit of everything for USF in the first half as she scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and dished four assists to lead the way for USF.
  • Kéita had a nice impact off the bench as she set new career-highs with 11 minutes played, five points and an assist on Monday.
UP NEXT:
USF will wrap up non-conference play with another early week day tip-off as they travel to Oklahoma for a matchup with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (10-0) on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT. Tulsa enters the matchup with a perfect record after winning back-to-back neutral site games in Atlanta against Georgia State and South Alabama.
