SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's volleyball team battled in sets one and three but could not avoid the sweep as No. 18 San Diego defeated the Dons in straight sets 24-26, 16-25, 23-25 on Wednesday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
USF (5-4, 5-4 WCC) finished the day hitting .134 as a team tallying 37 kills on 127 attempts with 20 errors. San Diego (9-0, 9-0 WCC) countered by hitting .256 with 44 kills on 121 attempts with just 13 errors.
Errors proved costly as the Dons had 33 on the afternoon. USD limited their total errors to 24.
McKenna Marshall was the only Don in double figures in kills. She finished the afternoon with 13.
Greta Corti had nine, Alegrias Valeria Cambindo had seven.
Aylen Ayub had 31 assists.
Anna Dalla Vecchia had a match-high 18 digs.
Bruna Correa had 11 digs as well.
San Diego had two players finish in double figures in kills, leading the team was Katie Lukes with a match-high 16 kills. Roxie Wiblin had 14.
The Dons held their own against the Toreros in all but the second set. After falling 26-24 in the first set, despite a 15-13 edge in kills, the Dons mustered just nine kills while hitting a match-low 0.95. The third and final set featured nine ties and four lead changes before the Toreros prevailed on a kill by Wiblin.
The two teams will resume their series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on the WCC Network.
