WBB | Dons Open WCC Tournament Against the Gaels

The University of San Francisco women's basketball team will take on rival Saint Mary's in the quarterfinals of the UCU WCC Tournament on Saturday.  The Dons and Gaels will tip off at 2:00 p.m. and will be televised on NBC Sports California as well as BYUtv and streamed on the WCC Network.  George Devine will have the call on radio on the Dons Audio Network

The Dons made earned their ninth win in 10 changes when they took down BYU 86-72 in the regular season finale.  The final score was not indicative of how the game actually went as USF was in total control throughout the contest.

• 3: This is the first time the Dons have been the No. 3 Seed - it is their highest seeding since 1997 when the Dons were the two seed.
• 4: USF has won the tournament four time ≠ last as in 2016.  The previous three times came in three-straight years: 1995, `96, and `97.
• 9: As a No. 9 seed in the WCC Tournament (only since 2012), San Francisco is 1-1 all-time.
• 24-23: The Dons are 24-23 all-time in the WCC Tournament, including an even 10-11 in Las Vegas.

SCOUTING REPORT: SAINT MARY'S GAELS
The Gaels came out on top, defeating No. 6 seed Pacific 69-55 in the second round of the WCC Tournament on Friday.  It ended a two-game skid by the Gaels.  The Gaels are 7-18 overall after finishing WCC play 4-14.  As a team, they are averaging 62.8 points per game and shooting 41.0 percent from the field.  Their opponents are averaging 71.6 points per contest and shooting 44.2 percent from the floor.  Taycee Wedin leads the Gaels with 12.6 points per game.  She is one of four players in double figures.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Saturday will be the 77th time the Dons and Gaels have squared off.  The series dates back to the 1985-86 season in which the Dons defeated the Gaels on the Hilltop 73-67.  The Dons swept the season series winning both games handily.
