PROVO, Utah — The University of San Francisco men's tennis team fell at the West Coast Conference's first-place team BYU Friday, 4-0, at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
Johan Garpered and Nitzan Ricklis completed a 2-0 week with their second consecutive win in as many days at No. 3 doubles. They swept the Cougars' Brigham Andrus and Mateo Melendez with an unblemished 6-0 victory. BYU (12-5, 6-0 WCC) earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The No. 2 win didn't come easy, however, as Stevie Gould and Phuc Huynh pushed BYU's Sean Hill and Sam Tullis to a tiebreaker, eventually falling 7-6 (7-1).
The Cougars took singles wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 to clinch the win. Huynh was on his way to forcing a third set, up 5-4 in the second before the match went unfinished.
"BYU was too tough for us today," said San Francisco head coach JT Sundling. "We look forward to finishing our season strong against Santa Clara next week."
San Francisco closes out its season on April 24th on the road at Santa Clara.
