FULLERTON, Calif. – Returning to action in search of their first road win of the fall, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (1-4-0) fell 1-0 on a late penalty kick goal at Cal State Fullerton (1-4-1) on Friday night.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Attacking from the start, the Titans would record the first two shots of the match at the 7:36 and 14:13 marks. Shortly thereafter, Nonso Adimabua tallied the first shot of the evening for the Dons at 20:51, but was unable to cash in on the early opportunity.
- Playing an equal game through the opening minutes of the contest, Ferdy Ghafury and Rodrigo Bueno each fired shots as the half continued. Unfortunately, neither could find the back of the cage to close out the first half. Heading into the locker room, the match remained scoreless.
- Following a shot from Fullerton's Mario Gomez out of the break, Bueno and Adimabua notched their second shots of the game shortly thereafter, but the USF attack was ultimately denied by Titan goalkeeper Jose Espino.
- Leading the charge offensively, Bueno logged his third shot of the night at 67:59, but was unlucky in finding the go-ahead goal for the Dons. In the closing minutes of the match, Filip Kanold attempted to take matters into his own hands with a shot at 88:47, but USF was kept off the board once again.
- With less than one minute left in regulation, Kevyn Lo would be charged with a foul as Cal State Fullerton was awarded a penalty kick opportunity at 89:54. Using their home crowd to their advantage, Sebastian Cruz snuck the ball past the diving CJ Pycior to put the Titans on top late. Unable to find the equalizer in the final seconds, Cal State Fullerton would hang on to secure the shutout win, 1-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Serving as a catalyst offensively, Bueno recorded a team-leading three shots against the Tritons on Friday, marking the third time in his career he has recorded 3+ shots and the first time since Apr. 3 at LMU.
- For Adimabua, the second year Don tallied at least two shots for the third consecutive contest. Overall, he currently leads USF with 12 total shots on the season.
- In goal, CJ Pycior made his collegiate debut on Friday night as he collected four saves in 45 minutes of action.
