RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Wrapping up their stretch on the road in Southern California, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (1-5-0) was unable to rally back against UC Riverside (5-2-0) on Sunday evening, falling to the Highlanders, 3-1.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- In the opening minutes of the match, UC Riverside would take an early 2-0 advantage as Roberto Garcia-Vargas scored twice off of assists- first at 4:15 followed by a second strike at 12:56.
- Less than one minute later, the Dons responded by cutting their deficit in half on a goal from Gabriel Bracken Serra at the 13:57 mark.
- Outshooting the Highlanders 9-6 overall in the first half, USF continued to get looks to even the contest as the half played on, but ultimately could not find the back of the net for a second time in the first 45 minutes of action. At the halftime break, UC Riverside remained on top, 2-1.
- Following three shots from the Highlanders out of the locker room, the Dons fired three shots of their own to counter, which included two from Kevyn Lo and one off the foot of Nik Kizerian.
- Trading shots as clock wound down, UC Riverside pushed their lead back to two on a goal from Adrian Meade-Tatum in the 88th minute. Denying USF's offense in the closing moments, the Highlanders would hold onto to secure the 3-1 victory and their second straight home win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- With his goal in the 14th minute, Bracken Serra found the back of the cage for the first time in his collegiate career. Overall, Sunday marked the seventh match that the Berkeley native has appeared in for the Dons as he also recorded a career-high four shots against the Highlanders.
- Climbing the ranks, Nonso Adimabua now ranks fourth in the WCC in total shots (17) after tallied five shots against UC Riverside. Notably, his seven shots on goal are also tied for sixth in the conference.
- Additionally, Kevyn Lo (3) and Nik Kizerian (2) both tied their career-high in shots respectively. In goal, CJ Pycior made his first collegiate start against the Highlanders, collecting two saves in 90 minutes.
- As a team, USF outshot UC Riverside 19-11 overall, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.
