SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Continuing their road swing, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (1-3) was unable to find much momentum offensively on Monday night, falling to Cal Poly (2-1-1), 3-0, at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Fresh off their home opener, the Mustangs applied pressure on the Dons out of the gates as they tallied the game's first shot in the fourth minute of action. As the half moved on, Cal Poly got on the board first in the thirtieth minute on a goal from defender Connor Leber to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
- Shortly thereafter, the Mustangs would extend their advantage to two on a penalty kick goal from Andrew Forth in the 34th minute. Despite shots from Elias Thomas and Shayan Charalaghi, USF ultimately could not respond in the first half as the Dons headed into the locker room trailing 2-0 at the break.
- Aiming to get back in the contest, Charalaghi and Gabriel Bracken Serra attempted shots on the opposing goal in the opening minutes of the second half, but were not able to find the back of the net on the attack.
- With each team exchanging shots as the half moved on, the Mustangs pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 73rd minute on a goal from defender Jacob Glass. Down the stretch, Nonso Adimabua, Tamba Di Mattia and Dominic Valdivia would each attempt their own shot on target as the Dons attempted to climb back into the match. Unfortunately, the Mustang defense locked down when they needed to as Cal Poly goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado logged two of his three saves in the final ten minutes of regulation. Defending their home field, Cal Poly would hang on to secure their first home victory of the season by a final score of 3-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Despite the loss, seven different Dons recorded at least one shot on goal: Adimabua (2) Bracken Serra, Charalaghi (2), Di Mattia, Thomas, Valdivia, Jack Boccuzi and Nik Kizerian. For Bocuzzi, Monday's shot marked the first of his collegiate career.
- As a team, USF led Cal Poly in corner kicks, 4-3. Overall, the Mustangs tallied 11 total shots (5 on target) while the Dons registered 10 shots (3 on target) on the afternoon.
UP NEXT:
