SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Early into Thursday night's game between the San Francisco Dons women's basketball team (8-10, 2-4) and the Pacific Tigers (3-11, 0-3) you got the sense that it would be a special kind of night for the home team on the Hilltop. Racing out to a huge first quarter lead and never looking back, the Dons ran away with a 88-71 win over the Tigers for back-to-back conference victories.
USF's outside shooting was ready to go from the jump as the Dons matched the school record for made three-point shots in a game with 15 as
Ioanna Krimili,
Kennedy Dickie and
Jasmine Gayles each scored 20 or more points on Thursday. The Dons win on Thursday was a milestone for head coach
Molly Goodenbour, as she now has 250 career wins at the NCAA level as a head coach.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- USF took hold of the game early with a dominant first quarter of play as the Dons shot 65% from the field as a team to take a 31-9 advantage through the game's first 10 minutes.
- The Tigers gained their footing slightly more in the second quarter, but the early onslaught from USF's strong shooting was still too much as the Dons cruised into halftime with the 53-28 advantage.
- Both teams each scored 18 points apiece in the third quarter of play as USF used more of their bench as they led 71-46 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
- UOP put together their best effort in the fourth quarter as they tried to cut into their deficit with the Dons ultimately coming away with the 88-71 victory in front of the home crowd.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Dickie had her best game yet as a Don, securing her first double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while knocking down six three-point shots and securing three steals.
- Krimili was fantastic as well scoring 26 points on an extremely efficient 10-of-14 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out two assists.Â
- Gayles continued her tremendous run of getting buckets off the bench, as she scored 21 points and matched her season-high with seven rebounds for the second consecutive game.
- Jessica McDowell-White continues to be among the best passers in the conference as she set a new season-high with 11 assists against the Tigers.
- Lucija Kostic also did a little bit of everything in the win as she scored four points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH GOODENBOUR:
"I thought we got off to a really good start and carried that momentum through most of the first half. It was really nice to see us share the ball and knock down some three-point shots. It's really great to have most of our team back and healthy and I was happy that everyone got to play."
UP NEXT:
USF now turns their attention to the Loyola Marymount Lions (5-9, 0-3) for the third and final home game of the week for USF. The Lions lost to Santa Clara in their last time out, falling to the Broncos 62-51.Â
