DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Last time out, the Dons battled hard to grab their first win in conference play but ultimately lost last week's challenges against Saint Mary's, Pepperdine and LMU.
- In their most recent game against LMU, which was extended to five sets, USF saw success offensively as Maria Petkova was able to match her season-high of 18 kills for the second time.
- Doing her part against the Lions, Aylen Ayub set a new season-high by recording 38 assists, as well as tallying seven and half points in the match.
- Heading into the week, freshman Abby Wadas currently ranks fourth in the WCC with 196 total digs while graduate student Claire Crijns is fifth in the conference with 0.42 service aces per set.
SCOUTING THE TORERO'S:
- Ranked number four in the country, the Toreros are off to a strong start this season, having won ten consecutive games while suffering just one loss against No. 3 Louisville in non-conference play.
- In their sweep against Portland last Saturday, senior Grace Forhling recorded her 1,000th career kill as a Torero as the senior has been a huge piece of the puzzle for USD this year.
- Middle blocker Haylee Stoner picked up the honors of WCC Defensive Player of the week earlier this season and has been solid for the Toreros defensively as the sophomore has recorded 40 block assists on the year so far.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
- Entering the third week of WCC play, #14 BYU has not allowed any of their opponents (14 matches) to register more than one set win.
- A force on the court, senior middle blocker Heather Gneiting most recently earned WCC Defensive Player of the Week, which marked the first Cougar this season to be recognized by the WCC.
- In their last match against Gonzaga, four Cougars recorded double-digit kills as they beat the Bulldogs over four sets, including tallying 65 kills as a team.
- Adding to their attack against the Bulldogs, senior setter Whitney Bower matched her season-high of 55 assists in BYU's win over GU. Overall, Bower currently ranks second in the WCC with an average of 10.29 assists per set.
