Men's Basketball Heads to Central Valley for First Road Trip

FRESNO, Calif. – Embarking on their first road trip of the year, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team (3-0) will aim to pick up their first victory away from the Hilltop this week as the Dons will travel to the Central Valley for a Wednesday night matchup at Fresno State (2-1).

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last time out, USF cruised past UC Merced, 88-71, to close out a perfect 3-0 home stand to begin the new year. Offensively, four Dons finished in double figures against the Bobcats: Khalil Shabazz (21), Volodymyr Markovetskyy (20), Tyrell Roberts (10) and Josh Kunen (10).
  • With the victory over UC Merced on Sunday, USF has now won thirteen consecutive non-conference games at home on the Hilltop.
  • Heading into Wednesday, Shabazz ranks at the top of the conference in minutes per game (34.3, third), total steals (8, third), steals per game (2.7, fifth), defensive rebounds (17, sixth), total rebounds (20, ninth) and points per game (15.7, eleventh).
  • As a team, USF currently sits second in the WCC in steals per game (9.7) and fourth in rebounds per game (41.7).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • In their last time out, Fresno State fell to UC Santa Barbara, 61-54, in a neutral site matchup at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Friday, Nov. 11. Prior to this contest, the Bulldogs had taken down Fresno Pacific on opening night (Nov. 7).
  • Coming into this year's matchup, three players are averaging double figures for Fresno State: Isaih Moore (12.5 ppg), Anthony Holland (10.5 ppg) and Donovan Yap (10.0 ppg). Against UCSB, Moore scored 12 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
  • Head coach Justin Hutson enters his fifth year at the helm of the Bulldogs in 2022-23 after guiding Fresno State to a 23-win season and a championship title in The Basketball Classic back in April.   
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Wednesday's matchup between the Dons and the Bulldogs will mark the twentieth meeting all-time between the two programs. Heading into the matchup, USF holds an 11-8 lead in the all-time series, including two straight wins over Fresno State. Last year, the Dons took down the Bulldogs, 71-63, on Dec. 8, 2021 in San Francisco.
