SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- It was a great afternoon on the Hilltop for the USF Dons women's basketball team (12-11, 6-5) as they won their fifth consecutive home game after defeating the Pepperdine Waves (7-10, 3-5) 78-57 on Saturday afternoon.
Ioanna Krimili had a tremendous day as she scored 25 points on 10-for-17 from the field to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Krimili also reached a milestone scoring her 1,000th career point as a Don.
Claudia Langarita also set a new career-high with 20 points and six rebounds off the bench.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The Dons wasted no time taking control of the contest as they raced out to an 11 point lead at the end of the of the first quarter.
- USF didn't relent heading into halftime as they tacked on five more points to their lead as led the Waves at the half 42-25.
- Pepperdine made a few runs to begin the second half, but USF weathered the attack to enter the fourth quarter leading 61-46.
- Without any thought of relinquishing the lead, the Dons cruised to their fifth consecutive home win and sixth win in their last seven games by defeating Pepperdine 78-57.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Krimili reached her milestone on Saturday afternoon in style, scoring 25 points and making 4-of-7 three point shots against the Waves.
- Langarita continued her impressive week by scoring a new career-high 20 points and grabbing six rebounds in the victory.
- Kennedy Dickie recorded her fourth double double in WCC play as she scored 13 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and set a season-high with four steals.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH GOODENBOUR:
"I'm pleased with our performance this afternoon, it's always great to get a win on your home court. Claudia had another strong offensive performance and it was awesome for Ioanna to hit the 1,000 point mark. I thought she played really assertively and had some nice assists too. Kennedy continues to rebound well, and I'm really happy for this group."
UP NEXT:
The Dons head back on the road for a Monday night contest with the Gonzaga Bulldogs (17-5, 8-1) at 6:00 p.m. in Spokane. Monday's game is a makeup of the previously scheduled conference opener on Dec. 29 that was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
