SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Following a back-and-forth afternoon with each team taking the lead at different points, the USF Dons baseball team (5-4) dropped a close one in extra innings to to the San José State Spartans (6-3) 6-5 in 10 innings at Excite Ballpark.
The Dons used a whole staff approach with nine different arms toeing the rubber on Tuesday afternoon against the Spartans.
Luke Keaschall had a good day at the plate going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while
Nick Yovetich drove his first home run over the wall in center field to get the USF offense started.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Both teams were quick to get on the scoreboard as San José State scored their first run in the bottom of the first, while the Dons responded with two in the top of the second on Yovetich's two-run blast.
- The Spartans added two more runs in the bottom of the second and a third in the third inning to take the 4-3 lead after the first three frames.
- Both pitching staffs settled in during the middle innings as USF was able to scratch across a couple of runs driven in by Mario DeMera and Harris Williams III who hit an opposite field Sacrifice Fly that put the Dons up 6-5.
- San José State plated the tying run in the ninth inning and then the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to get the victory on their home diamond.
