SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Continuing their six-match home stand to open the season, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team is set to host San Jose State on Thursday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium.
Following the men's soccer match at 4:00 pm, the USF women's soccer team will battle Cal at 7:00 pm as part of USF's Defend the Hilltop doubleheader.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Kicking off their 2022 campaign on a high note, the Dons downed Northern Illinois, 3-2, on opening night last week behind a late goal from Dominic Valdivia. Just 48 hours later, the Dons notched their first shutout of the year by blanking Niagara, 2-0, on Saturday, Aug. 27.
- Awarded for his stellar efforts in the cage, goalkeeper Eric Waltz was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30. Overall, the San Jose native matched his career-high with seven saves against NIU before tallying his fourth career shutout against Niagara. Through the first week of play, Waltz has recorded 10 total saves to go along with an .833 save percentage.
- As a team, USF checked in at No. 4 in the West Region in the United Soccer Coaches' Week 1 poll following their two victories last week.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
- Entering Thursday's contest with a 1-1 record, San Jose State handled CSU Bakersfield, 2-0, to open their season on Aug. 25 before falling on the road at Sacramento State, 2-1, this past Sunday, Aug. 28.
- Through two matches, three different Spartans have found the back of the net for SJSU so far: Diego Delgadillo, Joel Garcia and Kasper Poulsgaard. Defensively, David Sweeney has totaled five saves and a .714 save percentage through 180 minutes of action for San Jose State.
- Following their matchup with USF, SJSU will return to the South Bay this weekend as they will battle another Bay Area foe when they travel to Stanford for a 7:00 pm showdown on Sunday, Sept. 7.
SERIES HISTORY:
- USF and San Jose State have met 11 times since 2005, with the Dons being victorious in nine of those matches. Most recently, San Francisco defeated SJSU, 3-0, at Negoesco Stadium on Sept. 12, 2019 as the Dons also hold a six-match win streak at home over the Spartans.
