Volleyball Returns Home to Face Saint Mary's and LMU

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (8-8, 2-2) returns home to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center to face off against Saint Mary's (6-9, 0-3) at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 followed by a midday matchup against Loyola Marymount (10-4, 3-1) at noon on Saturday, Oct. 7.

DONS AT A GLANCE:

  • San Francisco competed in its first conference road games last week, falling at Pacific and Pepperdine.
  • The Dons lead the WCC in total digs, with 929 as a team. Abby Wadas continues to lead the conference in digs with a total of 240 digs, contributing to the Dons' offensive lineup.
  • Lindsay Oldendorf continues to dominate offensively, ranking second in WCC with a .432 hitting percentage. Oldendorf, contributing for the green and gold, has accumulated 118 kills and a 1.87 kills per set ratio.

SCOUTING THE GAELS:

  • In its first two weeks of conference play, Saint Mary's has dropped all three matchups, being swept by LMU and San Diego then falling to Pepperdine in Moraga last Thursday.
  • With 170 kills, Kjersti Strong leads the Gaels offensively, adding to their point scoring. 
  • Defensively, the Gaels lead the WCC in total blocks with 154.5, averaging 2.66 blocks per set. The team also ranks third in the conference with 805 digs and an average of 13.88 digs per set.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:

  • Placing third in the conference and coming off two sweep wins over Portland and Gonzaga, LMU begins the week at Pacific before facing San Francisco in the Bay Area.
  • WCC Defensive Player of the Week, Jacquelyn Moore, has been a pivotal asset for the Lions, tallying 63 blocks this season.
  • Moore also provides for her team offensively and currently ranks first for hitting percentage with 124 kills and a hitting percentage of .477.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Beginning in 2002, San Francisco has trailed Saint Mary's in the overall series history with 13 wins to 29 losses. The last time the two programs faced off, the Dons won in four sets on Oct. 20, 2022, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
  • LMU holds a 28-14 record over San Francisco since the 2002 season. The two programs split the two meetings a season ago, with the Dons earning a win over four sets on the road on Oct. 27, 2022.
