TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (1-2) dropped a narrow 77-69 non-conference decision to Arizona State (3-0) Monday evening at Desert Financial Arena.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After falling behind 4-0 early in the opening quarter, San Francisco bounced back to take its first lead. Using a 6-1 run, led by three-point baskets from Jasmine Gayles and Cami Fulcher, the Dons gained a three-point advantage, 8-5, at 7:24 of the first quarter.
- The Sun Devils recovered, regaining the lead shortly after and pushed their advantage to six, 14-8, with 2:24 remaining on the clock. Despite the Dons cutting the deficit to four, the Sun Devils used a 10-1 run to close out the half, increasing the lead to 21-11.
- Arizona State continued to increase its advantage throughout the second quarter, leading by as much as 21 midway through the period.
- The Dons brought the game back to single digits in the third quarter, 50-41, with two free throws from Gayles at the 4:11 mark of the quarter. The Sun Devils responded, boosting the lead to 13 to end the third, leading 56-43.
- San Francisco continued to fight through the final 10 minutes of play, cutting the deficit to single digits multiple times. The Dons got to within six, 75-69, with nine seconds left in the game on a Debora dos Santos jumper, but two free throws from the Sun Devils solidified the win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Cami Fulcher finished with a career-high 18 points, including connecting on five of her eight attempts from beyond the three-point line.
- Gayles reached double figures for the third-straight game, posting 17 points. Going a perfect five-for-five from the free-throw line, Gayles also added a season-high seven rebounds.
- Dos Santos and Freja Werth also reached double figures, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.
