Tigers Top Dons in Season Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. - Closing out the season with one final road match, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (6-9-3, 3-4-1 WCC) showed their grit in an offensive battle at Pacific (9-9-1, 3-5 WCC) on Saturday night, but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 5-3, at Knoles Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • After Alex Carpio fired the first shot of the match just 41 seconds into play, Lindsey Chau got the Dons on the scoreboard first at 11:26 as she blasted the ball past the opposing goalkeeper to put USF on top, 1-0.
  • Less than three minutes later, Pacific answered with a goal of their own as Aniela Jensen found the back of the net at 13:23 to even things at 1-1.
  • As the half played on, the Tigers found a groove offensively as goals from Lauren Frohan and a second from Jensen catapulted UOP in front, 3-1, halfway through the first period.
  • In the 24th minute, Marissa Vasquez got in on the action as Cade Mendoza found the midfielder for her seventh goal of the season at 23:53 to bring the Dons within one, 3-2.
  • Just a few minutes later, Pacific added to their advantage on a goal by Jaida Nyby in the 29th minute. Keeping USF off the board for the rest of the period, the Tigers maintained a two-goal lead, 4-2, heading into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, San Francisco continued to attack as Vasquez had three of the first four shots in the second half for the Dons. Fighting with each possession, Chau scored her second goal of the contest in the 84thminute to narrow the gap to one goal again, 4-3.
  • Less than 20 seconds later, Ryanne Molenaar delivered for UOP as Jensen found her for Pacific's fifth goal of the night to go up 5-3.
  • Despite one last attempt on target from Isabella Ayau at 89:38, the Tigers hung on to defend their home field and take down the Dons by a final score of 5-3.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • For Chau, her two-goal performance marked the first brace of her collegiate career as she now has three goals on the season, one shy of her four-goal season in 2022. Overall, her five shots were also a new season-high
  • Seeming to heat up down the stretch of the season, Vasquez now is now tied for eighth in the WCC with seven total goals this fall. Impressively, she has netted six of her seven strikes across the team's last seven matches. Overall, her eight shots on Saturday night also marked a season-high.
  • Suiting up for potentially their final games as Dons, Kaya Pigoni, Isabelle Esparza and Vasquez each played a full 90 minutes against Pacific.
