SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Getting back in the win column in dominant fashion, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team (9-4) routed Northern Arizona (6-6), 91-51, on Wednesday night at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
Â
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Starting perfect from the field to open play, San Francisco went 12-for-12 to begin the game against the Lumberjacks, which resulted in a 29-9 lead through the first 7:02.
- Continuing to flash their firepower early, a made three-pointer from the hands of Malik Thomas put USF up 22 (34-12) as the midway mark of the first half crossed.
- After making his first start in the green and gold on Wednesday night, Thomas proved his worth with four triples in the first half, with the fourth coming at the 7:00 mark to keep it a 21-point game, 37-16, in favor of San Francisco.
- Following in Thomas' footsteps, Junjie Wang came off the bench to knock down a triple of his own at 3:11 and keep the momentum rolling. Heading into the locker room, the Dons remained on top by 22 points, 48-26, marking the second-lowest point total allowed by USF in the first half this season.
- Joining the party, Mike Sharavjamts lined up a three-pointer of his own on a fastbreak less than two minutes into the second half to stretch the San Francisco advantage to 29 points, 55-26. Just a few minutes later, a layup from Josh Kunen at 14:09 helped the Dons take a 30-point lead, 63-33.
- Taking better care of the ball in the second half, a jumper in the paint from Thomas at 8:24 put the green and gold up by 37 (75-28). Down the stretch, USF opened their lead up to as many as 41 points. With 3:26 left in regulation, Wang's third and final triple of the evening made it 85-44 in favor of the Dons.
- Closing out the contest with their foot on the gas, a layup from Volodymyr Markovetskyy with 30 seconds remaining helped San Francisco secure their second-largest victory of the season. Improving to a perfect 6-0 at home on the Hilltop, USF went on to take down Northern Arizona, 91-51.Â
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Finishing one rebound shy of a double-double, Jonathan Mogbo was tabbed Player of the Game after tallying 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal on a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor.
- Alongside Mogbo, Thomas poured in a career-high 19 points on 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from distance. Impressively, these five three-pointers mark a career-high for Thomas as the USC transfer also pulled down 4 rebounds in 24 minutes played.
- Offensively, Marcus Williams (12 points) and Wang (11 points) also finished in double figures. Notably, Wang's three triples also marks a career-high for the freshman.
- As a team, San Francisco led Northern Arizona in points in the paint (40-14), points off turnovers (17-14), second chance points (10-5), fast break points (13-9), rebounds (38-19), steals (10-4), blocks (6-3) and assists (21-9).Â
