STANFORD, Calif. – Traveling south for their first road match of the season, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (0-2) fell at No. 6 Stanford (2-0), 4-0, on Thursday evening at Cagan Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Starting things offensively, Stanford got on the board first in the 8th minute on a goa from Joelle Jung as the Cardinal took an early 1-0 lead.
- In the minutes to follow, Jasmine Aikey netted the second goal of the match for Stanford at 29:16 before Maya Doms converted on a penalty kick goal at 31:36 to make it 3-0 in favor of the hosts.
- Closing out the half, Ellie Weissenberg and Isabella Ayau each fired shots of their own to wrap up the first 45 minutes of action as the Cardinal held onto their three-goal advantage heading into the locker room.
- Moving into the second half, Stanford added a fourth goal off the foot of Erica Grilione in the 77th minute.
- Never giving up, Ayau, Lindsey Chau and Marissa Vasquez continued to fire for the green and gold, but San Francisco could not find the back of the net to inch closer.
- Hanging on to defend their home field, No. 6 Stanford went on to secure their third victory of the season by a final score of 4-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Individually, Chau tallied at least two shots for the second straight game to begin the 2023 season. Through the first two games of the year, Chau is tied with Gabby Rizzo for the team lead with five total shots.
- In the cage, Kira Ybarra racked up a season-high seven saves while playing the full 90 minutes.
- Additionally, Ayau's shots marked the first of her collegiate career while Jackie Koerwitz tallied her first attempt in the green and gold.
