Volleyball Hosts Santa Clara and San Diego in Final Homestand

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following a two-match road swing, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (14-12, 7-7 WCC) returns for its final homestand of the season when it hosts Santa Clara (8-16, 4-8 WCC) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and San Diego (16-8, 11-3 WCC) for senior day at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco enters the final two home matches in fifth place in the WCC standings with a 7-7 record. The team looks to return to the win column after falling on the road last week to LMU on Thursday, Nov. 14, and Pepperdine on Saturday, Nov. 16.
  • Over the two matches, Michalina Rola and Maria Petkova accumulated 14 kills a piece, carrying the Dons offensively. The duo continues to lead the team kills this season, with Rola tallying 300 and Petkova recording 229.
  • Delaney Ewing posted a team-high .667 hitting percentage against the Lions. Ewing continues to be a consistent asset offensively, swinging at a .326 clip, ranking third on the team.
  • As a team, San Francisco is second in the conference in kills with 1,290 and second in hitting percentage at .243. 
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
  • Santa Clara dropped two matches on the road in Southern California last week, falling to Pepperdine and LMU in straight sets.
  • The Broncos, currently on a three-match losing streak, enter the week in 10th place in the league standings with a 4-8 record.
  • Ela Radeff led the Broncos over the two matches, posting 14 kills against the Waves, followed by another double-digit performance against LMU with 12 kills.
  • Grace Flanagan has been dynamic for the Broncos defensively as she leads the team with 81 blocks.  
  • Alayna Crabtree leads the team with 274 kills, ranking ninth in the WCC. Crabtree, the graduate transfer from Boston College, also leads the team in points with 300.5.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
  • San Diego holds second place in the WCC standings with a record of 11-3. Before coming to the Hilltop, the Toreros host Gonzaga on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
  • Entering the week on a three-match winning streak, the Toreros last earned convincing victories over Oregon State and Portland, only dropping one set.
  • Three players tallied double-digit kills at Oregon State on Saturday, Nov. 16, as Nemo Beach recorded a team-high 14. Isabel Clark (11), and Haylee Stoner (10) also contributed offensively in the win over the Beavers.
  • Kylie Munday accumulated 37 assists in both matches last week, adding to her season total of 829 assists, the most on the team and fourth in the conference. 
  • As a team, the Toreros lead the conference in hitting percentage with .246 over 91 sets played and are third in overall points with 1,501.5. 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • In their last meeting this season on Saturday, Sep. 28, San Francisco overcame a deficit to defeat Santa Clara in five sets at Leavey Center in Santa Clara. Overall, Santa Clara leads the series history dating back to 2002 with a record of 30-15.
  • Last season, San Diego swept San Francisco in both meetings during the regular season, including a straight-sets win over the Dons on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. The Toreros hold the advantage in the all-time series dating back to 2002 with a record of 38-6.
