DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bouncing back in Daytona Beach, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team (5-2) took third place at the Sunshine Slam on Tuesday afternoon as the Dons raced past Fordham (3-5), 85-64, at Ocean Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Taking charge early, Marcus Williams scored the first five points of the afternoon for San Francisco as the point guard knocked down his first triple of the game before converting on a driving layup to put the Dons up 5-3 just 1:04 into action.
- Providing a spark off the bench to open things up, Junjie Wang came in for the green and gold and immediately nailed back-to-back three-pointers to push the score to 11-3 in favor of San Francisco.
- At 16:10, Japhet Medor converted on a layup to trim the USF lead to 12-8, but the Dons answered with a 6-0 run in the next three-plus minutes to take a ten point advantage, 18-8.
- Continuing to fire on offense as the first half moved along, Williams found Carlton Linguard Jr. for a fastbreak layup at 9:18 to extend the San Francisco lead to twenty points, 32-12.
- Seeing success in all facets of the game through the first twenty minutes of action, Fordham would not be able to come closer than 16 points in the first half as the Dons held a sixteen-point lead, 45-29, heading into the break.
- Coming out of the locker room, the Rams were able to cut into their deficit as Fordham trailed by thirteen, 48-35, at 17:58 in the second half. However, San Francisco flexed their muscle once again as the green and gold reeled off a 9-2 run shortly thereafter to push their advantage to 24 points, 62-38, at 14:01.
- Keeping pace near the midway mark of the second half, four more points from Williams kept the Dons in control, 69-44, with 9:04 remaining. Experiencing little resistance down the stretch, Ndewedo Newbury knocked down a triple of his own to give the green and gold a 27-point lead, 76-49, which would be their largest of the afternoon.
- Cruising to the finish line, one final basket from Robby Beasley with 18 seconds left helped San Francisco secure a 21-point victory, 85-64, on Tuesday.Â
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Earning Sunshine Slam All-Tournament Team honors, Williams finished with 19 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals on 8-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond-the-arc in the win. Notably, the guard also had just one turnover in 28 minutes.
- Pacing San Francisco in the scoring column, Newbury poured in a game-high 21 points on 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from distance as the forward also added three assists, one rebound and one block in 30 minutes.
- Impressing off the bench, Wang tied his career-high with 11 points against Fordham as the forward shot 3-of-4 from the floor, 2-of-3 from three-point land and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Overall, he also recorded four rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes.
- Improving to 3-0 when three players score in double figures, San Francisco shot a scorching 61.2 percent (30-49)Â and 55.0 percent (11-20) from distance in the win over Fordham. As a team, the Dons led the Rams in points in the paint (38-22) and fast break points (15-10).
