Women's Basketball Begins 2024-25 Season at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball program begins the 2024-25 season on the road when it takes on Colorado State at 5:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. PT on Monday, Nov. 4, at Moby Arena.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • San Francisco enters the new season after finishing 2023-24 with a 14-16 record while earning a tie for third place in the West Coast Conference standings at 10-6. The Dons, winning double-digit conference wins for the third time in the last four seasons, are coming off a narrow 76-71 loss to Pacific in the WCC Tournament quarterfinals.
  • The program returns 12 players from the 2023-24 roster heading into the new campaign, including Debora dos Santos, an All-WCC First Team selection, and Freja Werth, the reigning WCC Newcomer of the Year.
  • Along with returning players from last season, San Francisco welcomes graduate transfer Emma Trawally Porta (Detroit Mercy) and true freshmen Angeliki Ziaka (Athens, Greece) and Kiana Moniz (San Francisco, Calif.) as newcomers to the program.
  • For the fourth consecutive season, a member of the program was named to the West Coast Conference All-Conference Preseason Team. Dos Santos earned the honor ahead of the new season after averaging a career-best 15.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in 30 contents, the lone player in the WCC last season to average a double-double.
  • Following a handful of coaching departures, Head Coach Molly Goodenbour has hired four new coaches to join her and Associate Head Coach Janell Jones on staff. Jamie Turner (former head coach at Sacramento State and San Jose State), Greg Rahn (former associate head coach at Dominican), Isaac Lu (former head coach at Western Nebraska Community College), and Jasmine Gayles (former player) enter their first season as coaches on the Hilltop.
  • The Dons enter the 2024-25 season selected to finish sixth in the WCC Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving 53 points. Gonzaga (92 points), Washington State (91 points), Portland (84 points), Oregon State (77 points), and Pacific (63 points) were slotted as the league's top teams. 
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
  • Colorado State enters the new season following a 62-52 loss in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Rams concluded the season with a 20-11 record and finished in a tie for fourth place in the league standings.
  • Despite the departure of leading scorer McKenna Hofschild, the Rams return seven players from the 2023-24 roster, including second-leading scorer Hannah Ronsiek, who averaged 8.5 points per game.
  • Emma Ronsiek was named Mountain West Preseason Co-Player and Newcomer of the Year following a four-year career at Creighton, averaging 14.1 points per game. Entering her first season at Colorado State, Ronsiek averaged 14.1 points per game, recording 16.8 in her final season with the Blue Jays in 2023-24.
  • Kloe Froebe was tabbed the Mountain West Preseason Freshman of the Year. The guard from Lincoln, Ill., was named the 2024 Illinois Miss Basketball and the 2024 Gatorade Illinois Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Monday's game will be the ninth meeting between the two programs. Dating back to the first-ever matchup during the 1989-90 season, the all-time series between San Francisco and Colorado State is deadlocked at four wins apiece. 
  • The Rams came out victorious last season, defeating the Dons 62-53 on November 26, 2023, at Chase Center. 
  • In three road games, the Dons have earned two wins over the Rams at Moby Arena, with the last coming in a 73-62 triumph on December 10, 2022. 
  • The only overtime contest between the two programs came on November 13, 2007, when San Francisco earned a 101-96 win at Colorado State in three overtimes.
