Dons Best Lions with Double-Digit Road Victory

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (5-6, 2-0 WCC) extended its winning streak to three games with a convincing 85-73 victory at LMU (6-5, 0-3 WCC) Saturday afternoon at Gersten Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Following an opening-possession three-pointer to give LMU a 3-0 lead, Debora dos Santos connected on her first field-goal attempt to trim the early deficit to 3-2 at 8:21.
  • Trailing 6-2 after Naudia Evans knocked down a straight-away three-pointer, San Francisco gained its first lead, using a 5-0 scoring run to edge ahead 7-6 at 6:04. Emma Trawally Porta began the run with a wide-open three-pointer and Cami Fulcher posted a steal and a fast-break layup to solidify the Dons' one-point advantage.
  • LMU battled back and regained the lead with eight straight points, capped off with a Maya Hernandez layup with 4:17 remaining in the first quarter for a 14-7 advantage.
  • Despite the Lions building upon its margin, pushing the lead to as high as nine, 22-13, at 2:08, the Dons scored the quarter's final three points as a Freja Werth free throw and a last-second layup from do Santos trimmed the deficit to six, 22-16, at the end of the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Dons took control in the second quarter, tying the game at 26 at the 6:37 mark following a Trawally Porta three-point basket.
  • After the Lions regained the lead with two Evans free throws, the Dons embarked on a 20-7 to close the quarter and take a 46-35 lead into the halftime break. Dos Santos led the green and gold throughout the run, scoring eight points and knocking down four of her five attempts.
  • San Francisco continued to hold a double-digit advantage in the third period as dos Santos, Trawally Porta, and Werth combined for nine points to push the Dons' lead to 16, 55-39 midway through the quarter.
  • After the Lions cut their deficit to 12, 58-46, at 4:22, dos Santos kickstarted a 14-1 scoring run as the green and gold held a 72-47 lead at the end of the third quarter. Luana Leite, Aya Keita, and Mia Vukšic totaled the final three field goals, with Vuksic connecting on a long three-pointer at the buzzer to push the Dons' cushion to 25.
  • LMU outscored San Francisco 26-13 in the fourth quarter but failed to reduce the deficit, falling by 12 points, 85-73.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Dos Santos scored a season-high 21 points while shooting 66.7 percent (eight-of-12) from the field. She also added six rebounds, two assists, one block, and a steal in 19 minutes.
  • Reaching double-figure scoring for the sixth consecutive game, Trawally Porta posted 18 points on 70 percent (seven-of-10) shooting. She tied the team lead in three-pointers with three, grabbed six rebounds, and matched her season-high in steals with two.
  • Vukšic recorded a season-high 13 points in 12 minutes off the bench, connecting on four of her six field-goal attempts. Vukšic also knocked down three baskets from beyond the arc and went a perfect two-for-two at the free-throw line.
  • As a team, San Francisco recorded a season-high 16 steals as three players led the way with three apiece.

San Francisco continues its road trip at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, when it travels to take on Santa Clara at Leavey Center.
