Toreros Best Dons on Saturday

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Despite multiple offensive opportunities the University of San Francisco baseball team (20-30, 3-17 WCC) dropped a 9-0 decision to San Diego (36-13, 19-4 WCC) Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • San Diego jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • In the bottom half of the first inning, San Francisco loaded the bases with one out after Matty Fung, Kody Watanabe, and Michael Campagna recorded singles to kickstart the Dons' rally. The Toreros erased the threat shortly after, recording two straight outs, as the Dons failed to add a run to the board.
  • The Toreros extended their advantage in the second when Jakob Christian sent a towering three-run home run over the left-field wall, pushing the lead to 5-0.
  • Three more runs came across the plate for San Diego in the top of the fourth inning, breaking open the game at 8-0.
  • In the seventh frame, the Dons once again threatened offensively as Lane Oliphant and Logan Azem reached on a single and a walk. However, the Toreros got out of the inning on a groundball triple play to end the inning.
  • San Diego tacked on a run in the ninth, solidifying the scoring at 9-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Fung reached base twice throughout the contest, recording a leadoff single in the first inning and working a six-pitch walk in the sixth.
  • Quentin Pohorski and Cal Amborn combined for two scoreless relief innings and allowed just one baserunner.
