LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Concluding the season on the road, the University of San Francisco (21-34, 4-20 WCC) dropped the series finale to LMU (24-29, 9-14 WCC) 10-6 Saturday afternoon at Page Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- LMU notched the game's first run in the opening frame when Diego Baquerio lined an RBI single to left field to put the Lions up 1-0.
- After a scoreless second inning, San Francisco gained its first lead of the game in the top of the third. In a wild play, Tyvon Moore and Charles-Etienne Pelletier scored to give the Dons a 2-1 advantage on a Logan Schweizer sacrifice fly. After Moore tied the game on the sacrifice fly, Matty Fung was tagged out in a rundown on the basepath, allowing Pelletier to score the go-ahead run.
- The Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 advantage.
- The Dons continued to battle throughout the following two innings, tying the game at four after three and a half innings of play. In the top half of the fourth, Lane Oliphant ripped a double down the right-field line, scoring Kody Watanabe to cut the deficit to one. Moore scored the tying run in the fifth inning on a Schweizer groundout to third base.
- LMU regained the lead and broke open the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs to take a 9-4 advantage.
- San Francisco answered the call and began to chip away at the deficit the following half inning. After a Mattie Thomas leadoff walk, Oliphant recorded his second double, scoring Thomas to trim the Lions' lead to 9-5. Oliphant later scored on a Matty Fung single to get the Dons within three, 9-6.
- LMU reached double figures in the bottom of the sixth as Christian Dicochea scored on a Baquerio double to extend the lead to 10-6.
- The Lions held the Dons scoreless through the final three innings to secure the victory and the series win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Oliphant, playing in his final game for the Dons, went two-for-four at the plate with two doubles, two RBI, and scored a run.
- Schweizer also added two hits and two RBI to guide the green and gold offensively.
- Moore led the team in runs scored with two while going one-for-three at the plate.
