SCOUTING THE DONS:
- Hitting the road to begin the week, San Francisco is coming off a disappointing three-game series against Nevada at home, dropping two of the three games played at Benedetti Diamond.
- In the lone win on Saturday, Mar. 8, the program totaled a season-high four home runs to defeat the Wolf Pack 7-6 in a come-from-behind victory. Patrick Keighran, Jordan Lewis, Kody Watanabe, and Trevor Harmon posted one home run throughout the contest, with Harmon hitting his first career long ball for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
- Quentin Pohorski was stellar out of the bullpen in the game's final inning, facing three batters and striking out two to earn his second save on the young season.
- Three players continue to bat over .300 through 16 games, with Kenny DeCelle leading the program with a .333 batting average, while Lewis (.323) and TJ Rogers (.310) have helped guide the green and gold at the plate.
- Rogers leads the Dons in multiple statistical categories, including runs scored (18), home runs (three), RBI (20), and slugging percentage (.552). His 20 RBI in 16 games also leads the WCC while ranking tied for first in stolen bases (eight), fourth in doubles (five) and walks (11), tied for sixth in home runs, and 10th in on-base percentage (.444).
- Aidan Risse leads all starting pitchers on the mound with a 4.19 earned-run average, allowing nine earned runs in 19.1 innings pitched. His 14 strikeouts in four starts is second best on the team and ranks 10th in the conference in ERA and innings pitched.
- A solid bullpen has helped the green and gold, as seven pitchers have accumulated a 4.00 earned-run average or better in a combined 31 appearances. Tyler Prystajko has totaled a 0.00 ERA in three appearances in relief, allowing no runs or hits in 4.2 innings pitched. His nine strikeouts rank tied for fifth on the team, and he picked up his first career win against UC Davis last Tuesday.
- As a team, San Francisco ranks third in the WCC with a .265 batting average, trailing only Saint Mary's (.290) and LMU (.274). The Dons' 22 home runs in 16 games pace the WCC, making them the only program to accumulate at least 20 this season.
- San Francisco's 5.50 earned-run average ranks second-best in the league and holds opponents to a .276 batting average.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS:
- California Baptist enters the week on a three-game winning streak after earning a sweep of Air Force on Friday, Mar. 7 – Sunday, Mar. 9 at home. Dominating every game of the series, the Lancers posted double-digit runs twice and outscored their opponent 27-10.
- Seven players are hitting .300 or better through 16 games, led by Chris Ramirez's .340 batting average. In the three-game sweep of Air Force, Ramirez went four-for-nine at the plate with a double and a triple, recorded four RBI, and scored twice.
- On the mound, Cody New has totaled a 1.33 earned-run average and a 2-1 record in four starts. New, the only pitcher on the team with a sub-2.00 ERA, leads the Lancers in strikeouts (30), opponent batting average (.179), earned runs (three), and innings pitched (20.1).
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS:
- Entering the week with an impressive 10-6 overall record, UC Riverside has won five of its last seven games, with victories over Utah, California Baptist, and Hawaii.
- Last weekend, UC Riverside posted a series win over Hawaii in its first Big West Conference series of the season, winning the final two games on Saturday, Mar. 8 and Sunday, Mar. 9 at home. Following a 17-5 blowout in the series opener, the Highlanders walked off the Rainbow Warriors 4-3 in 13 innings on Saturday and scored seven runs in the later innings for a 7-4 win in the series finale on Sunday.
- Robert Pitts guides the program offensively with a .365 batting average while ranking first in hits (17), extra-base hits (11), and slugging percentage (.554). Pitts leads the Highlanders with six multi-hit games and is coming off a five-for-six outing at the plate in the win over Hawaii last Saturday. Over the previous four games, Pitts has totaled a .667 batting average, with four doubles, a home run, five RBI, and five runs scored.
- Three outstanding pitchers lead UC Riverside as Matthew Flores leads the way with a 2.14 earned-run average. Joshua Martinez (3.71 ERA) and Matthew O'Brien (4.76) have also succeeded on the mound in a combined 13 appearances and 35 strikeouts.
- UC Riverside is set to travel to take on UNLV in a single game on Tuesday, Mar. 11, before returning home to host San Francisco.
SCOUTING THE BLUE JAYS:
- Winners of four of its last five games, Creighton has posted a 7-4 record and is at the top of the Big East Conference standings through 11 games. Before the Blue Jays enter the three-game series on the Hilltop this weekend, the program will host Kansas State at Charles Schwab Field Omaha on Tuesday, Mar. 11, to conclude a three-game homestand.
- Creighton earned two wins over UC Davis last weekend, outscoring the Aggies 13-3 while earning a 4-0 shutout victory on Sunday, Mar. 9.
- Nolan Sailors, the Blue Jay's best hitter, has registered a team-high .444 batting average, ranking tied for 48th in the nation. In 11 starts, Sailors has recorded six multi-hit performances, highlighted by a four-for-four outing with a double, two RBI, and one run scored in an 8-4 win over College of Charleston on Sunday, Mar. 2.
- Matthew Aukerman and Garrett Langrell lead the team on the mound, combining for a 1.79 earned-run average with five runs in 25.2 innings. Aukerman paces the program with a 1.35 ERA, tied for 48th in Division I, while Langrell has totaled a 2.19 ERA with three runs on 10 hits in 12.1 innings pitched.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco's matchup at California Baptist marks the first time the two teams have faced off in program history.
- Since the 2006 season, UC Riverside has had a slight edge over San Francisco, winning 14 of the 24 games. The Dons, however, have recorded four straight victories over the Highlanders, with the last coming on March 10, 2019, in a 4-3 13-inning affair at Benedetti Diamond.
- Creighton won two of the first three games against San Francisco as the two programs faced off for the first time in program history last season. The Dons earned one win at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, defeating the Blue Jays 6-3 on March 16, 2024.
