Dons Earn Comeback Win Over Waves in Series Opener

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (18-24, 6-10) earned a victory in the series opener, defeating Pepperdine (10-32, 5-11 WCC) 10-4 Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Pepperdine opened the game on top, recording four runs in the first inning to take a commanding 4-0 advantage.
  • Following two and a half scoreless innings, San Francisco scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. JT Amaral highlighted the Dons' break-out inning, posting a bases-clearing double off the left field wall to give the green and gold a 5-4 lead. TJ Rogers and Jordan Lewis also propelled the offense with singles that drove in two runs apiece.
  • Extending the lead in the seventh, Rogers recorded a long two-run home run to push San Francisco's advantage to 9-4. Kody Watanabe also scored on the play, leading off the frame with a four-pitch walk.
  • A Patrick Keighran sacrifice fly in the following inning, scoring Zack Ramppen, concluded the Dons' scoring at 10-4.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Seven players combined for 12 hits throughout the contest as San Francisco recorded its 15th game with double-digit base hits.
  • Rogers went a perfect four-for-four at the plate, a home run, four RBI, and scored twice. Rogers' four knocks matched a career-high while matching a season-high in RBI set against Sacramento on February 15.
  • Amaral and Ramppen also recorded multi-hit performances with two hits apiece. The duo, supplying the Dons with production from the bottom of the lineup, combined for three RBI and three runs scored.
  • Gabriel Barrett posted a career performance on the mound, pitching seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, and striking out four batters to earn the win.
  • Dylan Brown pitched the final two innings, allowing just one baserunner and recording two strikeouts.
