SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (26-29) capped off the regular season in thrilling fashion, storming back for a 6-5 comeback win over Utah Valley (28-26) on Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- TJ Rogers put San Francisco on the board first, launching a two-run shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the third for an early 2-0 lead.
- Utah Valley quickly responded, tying things up with a two-run home run in the fourth. The Wolverines kept the momentum going in the fifth, as Landon Frei broke the game open with a three-run blast to go ahead 5-2.
- The Dons erupted in the eighth inning, sparked by Eddison Esquivel's leadoff solo home run that ignited the rally. Patrick Keighran followed with a blast of his own, trimming the deficit to one, 5-4.
- After Matty Fung reached on an infield bunt single, Matteo Bellisimo delivered the team's third long ball of the inning, launching a go-ahead pinch-hit shot to give the Dons a 6-5 lead.
- Dylan Brown came in to slam the door in the ninth, facing the minimum in a clean inning. He needed 10 pitches to lock down the win and preserve the Dons' one-run lead.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Esquivel led the Dons at the plate, finishing two-for-four with a solo home run, his 12th of the season.
- Keighran also added his 12th long ball of the season as he concluded the final regular season game with two hits in four at-bats.
- Aidan Risse earned the win with a strong relief outing, going 4.0 innings, allowing just one run on two hits and striking out six.
