Volleyball Secures Three-Set Sweep Against Idaho State

BOISE, Idaho – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (2-3) returned to the win column on Thursday afternoon, defeating Idaho State (2-5) in a three-set sweep in the first match of the Boise State Invitational at Bronco Gym.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • In a back-and-forth opening frame that neither team led by more than three points, San Francisco pulled ahead early, 10-9, following a 3-0 scoring run. Maeve Bailey and Hokulani Perez led the Dons offensively, producing one kill apiece.
  • Trailing 22-19 later in the first set, Idaho State recorded four straight points to regain the lead, 23-22. The green and gold, however, scored the final three points to earn the win in the opening frame, 25-23.
  • San Francisco carried the momentum from a competitive first set by earning a 25-19 victory in set two.
  • The Bengals dominated midway through the set, securing a commanding 17-13 advantage following a 9-3. The Dons battled back, winning the subsequent four points to tie the frame at 17. Crystal Galaviz and Bailey added kills while the defense forced the Bengals into two attack errors.
  • After Idaho State won two straight points, regaining the lead at 19-17, San Francisco finished the set on an 8-0 run to earn the victory, 25-19. Bailey led the way offensively with two kills while the front line accumulated two blocks to help guide the program to the set win.
  • In a tightly contested third set, the Dons led late, 22-20, and used a 3-1 scoring run to complete the three-set sweep for their second win of the season, 25-21.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Bailey led the program offensive, accumulating 10 kills as she reached double-digit kills for the first time this season. She also totaled a season-best .643 hitting percentage and only committed one error in 14 attempts.
  • Galaviz nearly recorded a double-double, totaling seven kills and team-high 10 digs.
  • Andrea Fabikovicová continued her dominant first season at the setter position, as she posted 21 to increase her season total to 136.
  • As a team, San Francisco recorded nine blocks, the third time the team has accumulated at least nine total blocks in a match this season.

San Francisco returns to action when it takes on Boise State at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, in the second match of the Boise State Invitational at Bronco Gym.
