DONS AT A GLANCE:
- With West Coast Conference Championship seeding on the line, San Francisco is in line for the No. 5, No. 6, or No. 7 seed in the upcoming tournament, depending on the final slate of games for Portland, Pepperdine, and Saint Mary's.
- The program is coming off a hard-fought 66-57 loss at home to LMU last Thursday. Despite the loss, the Dons concluded the season with a 9-7 record at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center, the sixth straight season the team has recorded a winning record on the Hilltop.
- In her final home contest, Mara Neira led San Francisco offensively, scoring a game-high 18 points while connecting on 40 percent of her attempts from the three-point line. Her double-digit scoring performance marks her fifth in the last six games and is averaging 12.0 points per game during that span.
- Candy Edokpaigbe also paced the green and gold on both ends of the floor, recording 15 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and one block. She continues to lead the team and rank second in the WCC in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game while averaging 18.1 points on 50.9 percent shooting in 17 league games.
- In her final game on the Hilltop, Olivia Williams posted six points and six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- Santa Clara has continued to be one of the West Coast Conference's best overall teams this season, despite losing Sophie Glancey to an injury, the team's top scorer. Glancey last played on January 10 at Washington State before sustaining an injury two minutes into the contest. Since the narrow 98-92 victory in Pullman, the Broncos have won seven of the last 11 games, while averaging 77.8 points per game.
- Maia Jones, Santa Clara's leading available scorer, is averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 37.2 percent from the floor. Jones has posted seven double-digit scoring performances in the last eight games while scoring 20+ in back-to-back games against Pepperdine and Pacific on January 31 and February 5. She is also effective from the three-point line, ranking second on the team in three-pointers with 58.
- Ava Schmidt has led the Broncos from distance this season, leading the team in three-pointers made (66) and three-point percentage (.365). Averaging 6.2 attempts from beyond the three-point line, Schmidt ranks third in the WCC this season in three-pointers made per game at 2.4.
- Santa Clara leads the WCC and ranks tied for sixth with Tennessee in the nation in three-pointers per game, averaging 9.6. Only Fairfield (11.9), Richmond (11.0), Arkansas State (10.1), Ohio (9.8), and Vanderbilt (9.7) average more three-pointers attempted per game.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco and Santa Clara are set to meet for the 110th time, with the Broncos holding the 61-48 edge since the first-ever meeting in the 1976-77 season.
- In the first meeting between the two programs this season, Santa Clara prevailed with a 77-67 victory at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Thursday, Jan. 8. Edokpaigbe and Aina Cargol led the Dons offensively, with Edokpaigbe scoring a team-high 19 points. Carol added a 17-point and seven-assist performance in 29 minutes.
