Gina Kehr Renews Contract, Extended Through 2029

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Gina Kehr, head coach of the University of San Francisco (USF) triathlon program, has signed a contract extension through 2029, announced on Thursday.
"We are thrilled that Gina will continue leading our triathlon program," said Director of Athletics Brent Blaylock.
"During her time on The Hilltop, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to recruiting, developing, and supporting high-performing student-athletes who excel academically and athletically at the national level. Her teams represent the University of San Francisco and USF Athletics with distinction while embodying our cura personalis approach to developing the whole person."
Kehr was hired as the inaugural head coach of the USF triathlon program on Dec. 27, 2018, by former Director of Athletics Scott Sidwell, and has led the Dons for the past seven years.
"I'm honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue leading the University of San Francisco Triathlon program for another three years," said Kehr.
"I'm thankful to our administration for their trust and support, and even more grateful for all the student-athletes, alumni, and staff who helped me build this program. We've accomplished a lot, and I know there is more to come. I'm excited for our new Director of Athletics and working under his vision for USF Athletics. I look forward to continuing to develop student-athletes while competing at the highest level of collegiate triathlon."
Starting with just three student-athletes on the roster in 2019, Kehr helped establish the program in its first season, guiding the Dons to a sixth-place finish at nationals.
Following the COVID year in 2020, the green and gold came back with a vengeance in 2021, as the roster grew to nine student-athletes. Kira Gupta Baltazar shined on the biggest stage for USF as she was crowned Individual National Champion at nationals in Tempe, Ariz. As a unit, the team finished second, their highest finish in program history.
One year later, San Francisco's roster grew to ten student-athletes, as the Dons recorded another top five team finish at nationals, placing fifth overall in 2022.
After a successful offseason, USF continued the momentum into 2023 by winning the Black Hills Collegiate Cup on Oct. 1 in Spearfish, SD. Notably, Maite Kuestner was also crowned individual champion of the race. The green and gold would then compete in a regional championship for the first time this year, placing second overall at the West Regional Championships in Springfield, MO. Just a few weeks later, USF finished third overall at nationals in Tempe.
Similar to 2023, Kuestner and the team began 2024 with a bang by winning the Mt. Shasta Tinman as a team, with Kuestner collecting the second individual crown of her career. San Francisco went on to finish fifth at the East Regional Championships and sixth at nationals.
Most recently, USF expanded its roster to 12 student-athletes in 2025, tallying a third-place finish at the East Regional Championships and an eighth-place finish at nationals.
Academically, San Francisco has been named a College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA) Scholar All-American for five straight years (2021-2025).
