Ben Metler enters his fourth season on the Hilltop, and was promoted to Co-Head Athletic Trainer in the summer of 2016. He also serves Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for USF. Metzler currently works with men's and women's golf (strength and conditioning) and baseball (athletic training) for the Dons.
Since arriving at USF in the fall of 2012, Metzler has assisted the volleyball (2012) and cross country (2013) squads along with his work with Diamond Dons baseball for the duration of his tenure at USF.
Prior to joining the Dons sports medicine staff, the Green Bay, Wisc., native worked at the University of North Florida for two years, where he was responsible for the athletic training needs of women's volleyball and swimming and diving for the Ospreys.
Metzler, a certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist, also holds certifications as a kinesio tape practitioner and a corrective exercise specialist as well as a certification from the Titleist Performance Institute. Some of his professional interests also include Graston and muscle energy techniques.Â
Metzler earned his Bachelor of Arts in exercise science from Ripon College (Wisc.) in 2008, and obtained a Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Hawaii, Manoa in 2010.Â
A varsity golf and tennis player at Ripon, Metzler still holds a 10 handicap on the course. Metzler, an avid fan of his hometown Green Bay Packers, is a shareholder in the team.
