Doug Padron joined USF's athletic department in December 2011 as assistant athletic director for athletic performance, was promoted to associate athletic director in the June 2014, and leapt to senior associate athletic director of sports administration and performance in the summer of 2016.
In his present role, Padron oversees the maximization of student-athlete performance through management of the strength and conditioning, sports medicine, mental training, and sports nutrition departments. He also heads up USF's Leadership Council, which emcompassed the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), team captains and rising team leaders. Padron also coordinates the Dons Dinners series, a monthly educational and social event for USF's student-athletes. He also played a key role in landing a NCAA Choices Grant for the purpose of educating the campus on the importance of bystander intervention.
Prior to arriving at USF, Padron served as the associate athletic director for sports medicine at Monmouth University for 10 years. As the head athletic trainer, he coordinated health care services for 500 Division I student-athletes and worked closely with the Hawks' football team.
In addition to his training duties, he initiated Monmouth University's Alcohol and Other Drug Education Program, originated and oversaw the Student-Athlete Peer Leadership Program, and established the Frosh Education Program.
He has served on the NCAA's Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sport, and currently is a former chairperson of the NCAA Drug Education and Drug Testing Subcommittee and the Northeast Conference Athletic Trainers’ Committee.
Prior to arriving at Monmouth, Padron was an associate athletic trainer at Villanova University, where he served as the head football athletic trainer, assisted in the management of the sports medicine department, coordinated health care plans and assisted in the implementation of the Villanova Student-Athlete Drug Testing Program. He also managed the graduate assistants and intern athletic training staff.
Before his appointment at Villanova, Padron spent two seasons as a graduate assistant trainer for Michigan State's football team. During his time in East Lansing, Padron assisted in the everyday administration of the athletic training room and supervised 12 student athletic trainers while working towards his master's degree in kinesiology.
Padron earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Towson University where he served as a student athletic trainer for the Tigers, providing athletic training services for basketball, baseball, football, cross country, soccer, tennis and track. Padron has also worked for the Baltimore Bandits (AHL) and Indianapolis Colts (NFL) as an intern athletic trainer.
Doug and his wife, Laura Froelich, reside in San Francisco with their three children, Cal, Luke and Riley.
