Two seasons
Seth Etherton, a former three-time All-American (1996, ’97, ’98) at the University of Southern California and Major League Baseball player whose professional career spanned 14 seasons, concluded his second season as the pitching coach for the Dons in 2015.
"As a former player who won a national championship and pitched in the Major Leagues, Seth brings a wealth of knowledge and a great understanding of the game to his position," San Francisco head coach Nino Giarratano said. "I'm confident Seth's teaching abilities will be a tremendous asset to a staff of talented pitchers, and USF will continue to be a destination for the top players in college baseball."
Etherton, 38, was twice named the Pac-10 Conference's Pitcher of the Year (1996 and '98). During an outstanding senior year in 1998, he was a Golden Spikes Award Finalist, the Sporting News Collegiate Player of the Year and led USC to a College World Series Championship. A first round selection (18th overall) of the Anaheim Angels in 1998, Etherton became a starting pitcher for the Angels in 2000. He was also a starting pitcher with the Reds during his time in Cincinnati from 2001-2004. Etherton also started for the Oakland Athletics (2005) and the Kansas City Royals (2006). During his 14 years of professional baseball, Etherton also played for the San Diego Padres (2006), the Long Beach Armada (2008 Golden League), the Arizona Diamondbacks (2009) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2010). In addition, he also played internationally throughout Latin America Puerto Rico in 2000, Mexico in 2011, Venezuela from 2009-2012) the Dominican Republic in 2012) and Asia (South Korea in 2007, and Taiwan in 2011).
After retiring from professional baseball, Etherton became a pitching coach for the Team USA Tournament of Stars 18U team during the summers of 2013 and 2014 in Cary, North Carolina.
A native of Monarch Beach, Calif., Etherton attended Dana Hills High School before embarking on an outstanding career in collegiate and professional baseball. He has been married to his beautiful and dedicated wife, Summer, for 12 years. They have two wonderful children, Duke (9) and Lila (5).
