The 2013-14 season marks Luke Wicks’ second year on USF’s men’s basketball coaching staff and his fourth season overall with the program.
After spending two seasons as the program’s video coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. Wicks was promoted to his current role as assistant coach prior to the 2012-13 season.
Prior to joining Rex Walters’s staff on the Hilltop, Wicks was the top assistant coach at Sheridan (Wyo.) Junior College from 2008 to 2010. Wicks was the Generals’ defensive coordinator and was in charge of individual skill development workouts, opponent scouting, recruiting the Midwest and East Coast, team travel, camps and clinics, program promotion and strength and conditioning.
In two years, he helped the Generals post an overall record of 53-14, as Sheridan captured two North Sub-Region IX titles and one Wyoming Conference Title. The Generals advanced to the Region IX Final 4 twice and appeared in the 2010 championship game. Wicks also helped develop two NJCAA All-Americans, four All-Region IX selections, four All-Conference selections and one first team defensive selection.
Wicks played collegiate basketball at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota under the legendary Don Meyer, the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history. In four years at Northern State, Wicks helped his team accumulate a record of 101-25. During that span he helped Northern win two NSIC Conference Tournaments and play in three NCAA Division II National Tournaments, including two trips to the Sweet 16. Wicks earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors as a senior and was a four-time NSIC All-Academic selection.
Wicks earned his undergraduate degree in fitness management in 2006 and received his master’s degree in education with an emphasis on health, physical education and coaching in 2008 from Northern State. While completing his master’s, Wicks served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach, specializing in men's and women's basketball training, as well as wrestling at Northern State.
