Rob Smith joined the University of San Francisco in June 2012 as the associate strength and conditioning coach for the strength and conditioning department, and was elevated to head strength and conditioning coach for the Dons in the fall of 2016.
 
Smith is responsible for overseeing all performance related activities of the men’s basketball program as well as the strength and conditioning needs of the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
 
Prior to the University of San Francisco, he was at the University of Connecticut from 2010-12 as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, and assisted in all performance related activities with the football team. Smith also was in charge of the strength and conditioning needs of the men’s and women’s tennis teams, men’s and women’s swimming teams, and the women’s lacrosse team.
 
He was also a strength and conditioning intern with the Connecticut and assisted with football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer, crew, and baseball. Smith also spent the summer of 2009 as a strength and conditioning intern with the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.
 
Smith received his masters of science in kinesiology in 2012 and bachelors of science in exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning in 2010, both from the University of Connecticut.
 
Smith is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a Certified Sports Performance Coach from United States of America Weightlifting (USAW), and certified by Functional Movement Systems in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS).
