Hall of Fame
Ivan Nicholas Maroevich was born on April 24, 1897 in San Francisco, the son of a Dalmatian immigrant who had moved to the United State in the 1890s. He attended the then Saint Ignatius College Preparatory and played basketball, football, and rugby for them. He attended the then Saint Ignatius College in the class of 1918, along with his younger brother Nicholas. He served as an Associate Editor and the Business Manager for The Ignatian, and was President of his senior class. He coached the then Grey Fog rugby team, and made his coaching debut on February 6, 1942 against the California Golden Bears. He graduated from the Saint Ignatius Law School in 1920 and practiced as an attorney in San Francisco. At that time he was the youngest man to pass the California State Bar exam.
He served as a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus in San Francisco, a member of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, and the Slavonic Mutual and Benevolent Society. He was an active member of the USF Alumni Association, and the Good Friday Movement. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1987. His son Ivan Mountford Maroevich attended USF and played football and rugby for the Dons.
