(Spokane, WA) – San Francisco played well in stretches but could not come up with enough answers in a 74-63 loss at Gonzaga Thursday night in the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Dons (12-9, 2-5 WCC) struggled taking care of the basketball and converting at the free throw line and the Bulldogs (15-3, 5-1 WCC) capitalized.

Senior forward Angelo Caloiaro scored a team-high 14 points with nine rebounds and was the lone Don to reach double-digit scoring. Junior guard Michael Williams added nine points, while senior guard Rashad Green chipped in eight.

USF enjoyed a solid start in the opening period, which featured eight lead changes.

San Francisco steadily built a 29-27 lead with 4:39 in the half on a free throw by Blackwell. It was all Gonzaga from there as the Zags went on a 14-3 run to take a 41-32 lead at the intermission. USF committed 11 turnovers off of 10 steals, leading to 14 Gonzaga points.

Wiliams scored seven points for the Dons while Caloiaro and Dickerson added five apiece. USF did not score a field goal in the final five minutes, managing just three free throws.

USF trailed by as many as 20 midway through the second half, but made things interesting with a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to nine, 59-50 on a 3-pointer by Caloiaro with 7:20 remaining in regulation. The Dons would inch no closer to the defending WCC Champions.

San Francisco shot .423 (22-52) from the field and went a chilly .571 (12-21) from the free throw line. The Dons committed 19 turnovers leading to 20 Gonzaga points. The Bulldogs connected on .489 (23-47) from the floor and out-rebounded USF 36-27.

Guy Landry Edi scored a career-high 15 points to lead Gonzaga, leading four Zags in double-digit scoring. Elias Harris and Robert Sacre each added 14 points and six rebounds.

San Francisco returns to action when it travels to Portland for a Saturday matinee. Tip-off against the Pilots is set for 1:30 PM in a game carried live on Comcast SportsNet Plus and broadcast live on 95.7 The GAME.
